Hey everyone, how are ya'll doing tonight? We hope it's going great!
It's mid-January and everyone is on their toes for the inauguration. Are you ready for Obama mania for the next four to eight years? Perhaps you already were before he even got elected!
People sang, danced and waved flags as Obama's swearing-in approached. Wearing a navy suit and red tie, the president was sworn in with his hand on the very same Bible used in President Lincoln's first inauguration.
"Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real," Obama said in his inaugural address. "They are serious, and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America: They will be met." Obama's address came before a crowd that had been building since 4 am. "Greatness is never a given. It must be earned" he said.
By the end of the night, president Obama will have attended 10 Inaugural Balls, the first of which is the "Neighborhood" Ball which is a first inspired by the Obama's themselves.
With over one million ecstatic Americans in attendance at the heart of Washington D.C., the president had to arrive in the most fashionable way possible. Introducing the Obamamobile! You read it right folks, the president is riding in style on the shiny, new Cadillac One.
Not just any typical Cadillac, a well equipped and bulletproof vehicle suitable for those large and in charge. Gadget blog website, gizmodo.com shows a through cut-away model of the limousine. Its doors are eight-inch thick and weigh 757 pounds.
Other highlights include:
* Withstanding rocket impacts and sealed against any biochemicals in the air.
* The petrol tank can withstand a direct hit due to special-foam and armor plating.
* Its body work is made from dual-hard steel, aluminum, titanium and ceramics for breaking up possible projectiles.
* This Cadillac must accessorize with night vision cameras, tear gas cannons and pump-action shot guns. Also, bottles of blood that are compatible with the President's very own blood.
Another cool thing for you guys to see is a slide show from NewScientist.com of an FBI kit. It is used to protect the inauguration. It will demand some high file technology, and of course other goodies such as:
* Mobile command post
* An armored assault vehicle
* A toughened chamber specifically designed to carry and transport bombs
There are eight slides to see on the page explaining all the fancy shamnsy gadgets, technology and gizmos used. The bombs technician's vehicle will be used just in case explosives are discovered. It contains a remotely-operated robot for the inspection of bombs and/or questionable packaging.
A standby is an MRAP, which stands for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected. It resembles the vehicles used in combat by US forces in countries such as, Iraq and Afghanistan. What's the point you ask? Just another form of protection against roadside bombs!! Much much more will be used to make sure this show is ran as smoothly as possible.
For more coverage on all the inauguration festivities, don't miss the Daily Show With Jon Stewart tonight at 11pm EST on Comedy Central. Also gotta tell you guys about the Starbucks Pledge! Pledge 5 hours of community service starting on January 21, 2009 and receive a free tall latte at your local Starbucks.
We sincerely wish President Obama the best of luck!
